· Clean gutters: Prevent rain from damaging your home's foundation and walls by cleaning your gutters and downspouts.
· Winterize Exterior Spigots: Turn the water line off to the spigots and then open the spigot to release all of the water left in the pipe to the spigot.
· Reverse ceiling fans: Run ceiling fans clockwise to push warm air down and make rooms more comfortable.
· Change furnace filters: If you have forced hot air, replace your furnace filters to improve performance, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality. If you have a water based heating system, it’s a good idea to bleed (release the air) from the system. For any type of heating system, it’s a great idea to have it serviced before heavy usage.
· Update doors and windows: Install more energy-efficient doors and windows to reduce heating bills. This is something to think about for next year!
· Blow out the water from your sprinklers: A professional company is best for this so the lines don’t freeze and burst!
· Maintain your chimney and fireplace: Have your chimney cleaned before using your fireplace and do a full inspection of your chimney if you haven’t performed one in a long time.
· Inspect your roof and attic: Check your roof and attic for any leaks or missing tiles.
· Cut back branches: Trim back branches. They shouldn’t be touching the house or be close to the house. Don’t make it easy for animals looking for warmth to get inside. It can also save some damage if we have a bad storm, too.
